About Taylors

From Chick Springs to Taylor's Station

Before there was a Taylors, there was Chick Springs. Dr. Burwell Chick opened a resort at the mineral spring in 1840, and by 1842 he had built a sixty-room hotel. Summer visitors kept the resort going, and its springhouse is the only original building still standing.

Around 1873 a railroad station was built on the property of Alfred Taylor, who had been born near the spring in 1823. Business gradually shifted to Taylor's Station, and in March 1904 the post office name changed from Chick Springs to Taylors.

The Southern Bleachery opened in May 1924 and at its peak employed more than 1,000 people. The old plant is now Taylors Mill, home to more than 70 tenants. In 2024 the community group Taylors TownSquare acquired the 8.62-acre Chick Springs property and began working to restore public access.

Planning Care for Common Areas

Walk the Common Areas First

If you sit on an HOA board or manage a property, walk the common areas before you call. Note where dogs actually go. That may be a strip along a sidewalk, a corner of a green space or the edge of a path, which isn't always the area set aside for them.

Write down how many pet waste stations exist, where they stand, and whether anyone keeps them stocked and emptied. With those notes, the crew can talk through scooping for some areas and station care for others.

Photos help. A few pictures of the busiest spots and of each station give the crew a clear view of the property before you talk in detail.

Installing or Maintaining Stations

The Scoop Crew installs new pet waste stations and maintains existing ones. Maintenance covers replacing bags and waste liners and cleaning around the station. If your community already has stations, ask about upkeep for those before adding more.

Where a station stands can matter as much as how many there are. One on the route residents already walk with their dogs is more likely to get used than one tucked out of the way. Ask for the crew's view on placement when you discuss the property.

If a station is damaged or missing parts, mention that too. Ask what the crew suggests, whether that means fixing the old one or putting in a new station.

Letting Residents Know

Service works better when residents know about it. Once a plan is in place, a note in the community newsletter or by the mailboxes can point out where the stations are and remind owners to bag and toss.

Residents who still leave waste behind are a separate matter for the board or manager. The crew's job is scooping the agreed areas and keeping the stations in order.

If the community has a website or an email list, the same note works there. Keep it short and specific. Say where the stations are, what goes in them and who to contact when one is full.

Your Own Yard Is a Separate Plan

When the HOA Handles the Common Areas

Community service covers common areas. It doesn't cover the yard behind your house. If you want help there, set up Residential Service for your own home. It is a separate service from any plan the community has.

Choose twice-weekly, weekly, biweekly or monthly visits, or a single cleanup. Monthly is for one dog and a yard of up to 1/8 acre, and twice-weekly depends on your address.

A community plan doesn't mean your own yard is covered. Whether to add Residential Service at home is your decision, not the board's.

Residential Service

Other Options at Home

If you would rather scoop your own yard, Bucket Service is a separate year-round service. You fill the bucket and the crew collects it, so the waste doesn't sit in your household trash.

Yard Deodorizing can be added to scooping service for the areas your dogs use most. Ask the crew how the treatment works and whether it is available for your yard.

Not sure which fits? Describe your yard and your dogs, and the crew can help you choose.

Bringing It to the Board

If you are a resident who wants the common areas cleaned, the decision usually sits with the HOA or the property manager. You can pass along the crew's phone number and email, or send them the Commercial Service page.

A board weighing a proposal will want to know what is on offer. The crew scoops common areas, installs stations and maintains them, and can discuss how often to come out for that property.

Bring a short description of the problem areas to the next meeting, with a photo or two if you have them. The board can see what the request covers before anyone contacts the crew.
