About Powdersville
A Community That Organized for Water
Powdersville sits in the northern corner of Anderson County, where the Saluda River marks the line with Greenville County. Most accounts tie the name to gunpowder, though local stories differ on the details.
Much of the community's modern history starts with a drought. In 1967, one of the driest years on record, wells were running dry. The next year local residents formed the Saluda Valley-Powdersville Water Company and signed up customers at the fire station on Highway 81. Water began flowing to 1,260 customers in June 1971, and the office was dedicated that October with Senator Strom Thurmond as the speaker.
In 2001 the company became the Powdersville Water District, which now serves about 35,000 people. Powdersville High School opened on August 16, 2011. Before then, local students attended Wren High.
Prefer to Scoop It Yourself?
Bucket Service is year-round collection of waste you have scooped. It differs from a visit in which the crew cleans the yard.

Doing It Yourself
How Bucket Service Works
Your Part and the Crew's Part
With Bucket Service, the crew gives you a five-gallon bucket. You scoop the yard and put the waste in it, and each week the crew comes by and changes out the bags, a bit like trash pickup. It runs year-round and is a separate service from yard scooping. Some bucket customers never use the scooping service at all.
Ask whether Bucket Service is available at your address, and where the crew would like the bucket left on collection day.
Because the service is year-round, it keeps going through the months when the yard sees less use. If the bucket will be behind a gate, mention how the crew should reach it. Ask about changing the collection rhythm if your needs change.
Who It Suits
Bucket Service makes sense if you already scoop and the part you dislike is what comes next. The bag sits in the trash can, the can smells, and someone has to haul it to the curb.
It is a poor fit if the yard has gotten away from you or nobody has time to scoop. The crew doesn't walk the yard on a bucket stop, so whatever is left in the grass stays there.
It can also suit someone who scoops a small yard every day and wants the waste off the property on a predictable schedule. The bucket doesn't change how you scoop. It changes where the waste goes afterward.
Making the Routine Easier
A few habits help. Keep the scooper and bags near the door you use to let the dogs out. Pick a regular time to walk the yard, even if it only takes a few minutes. Close the bucket lid after each use.
Scooping a little and often is less work than a long session once a week, and the bucket is ready when the crew arrives. That is general advice, not a requirement of the service.
If several people in the house share the scooping, agree on whose turn it is. A missed week shows up quickly when nobody is sure who was supposed to go out.
When to Hand It Over
Moving Between DIY and Full Service
Start With a Clean Yard
If you want to go the bucket route but the yard is behind, a one-time cleanup can reset it. Keeping up a little at a time is easier than catching up on weeks of waste.
Ask the crew whether a cleanup followed by Bucket Service is available for your address.
Tell the crew roughly how long it has been since the yard was last scooped and how many dogs use it. That helps them plan the cleanup.
A clean start also shows you how much the dogs leave in a week, which helps you judge whether scooping it yourself is realistic.
When Scooping Stops Being a Small Job
A new dog or a busier stretch at work can change how much scooping you can keep up with. When it starts to slip, the crew can take the yard over, either on a recurring schedule or with a single cleanup when you fall behind.
Recurring residential visits are the full-service choice. Twice weekly depends on the address, and weekly and biweekly are the middle options. Monthly covers one dog and a yard of up to 1/8 acre.
It doesn't have to be permanent. Ask the crew how moving between Bucket Service and yard scooping works for your address.
Compare Full Yard ServiceOdor Treatment and DIY
Yard Deodorizing is an add-on to scooping service. If you scoop yourself and still want help with odor in a dog-use area, ask the crew what is possible for your yard.
Wysiwash yard sanitizing is another treatment to ask about. The crew can explain how it differs from deodorizing and whether it is available where you live.
Smell around the bucket itself is a separate matter. Keep the lid closed, and tell the crew if the bucket's spot is the problem area.
